Atlantis – Paradise Island

Today we had an early start so that we could catch our bus at 8:30 out to the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island. On the approximately 25 minute drive we got to see some more of Nassau including the downtown and the cruise ship port where there were four ships docked for the day, three from Carnival and one from Norwegian. None from Royal Caribbean, who we sailed with this time last year.

At Atlantis we got to see all of the aquariums including The Dig, which is a mock archeological dig of the lost city of Atlantis filled with all kinds of aquariums and sea life. We also got to enjoy the architecture of the Atlantis buildings which was quite impressive.

Outside we walked the grounds, getting in around 14,600 steps over the course of the day (leaving us both pretty tired and a little sore). There was lots to see outside as well with many ponds or “lagoons” as they called them with even more sea life including green sea turtles, various sharks, sting rays, even baby sharks and sting rays. There were waterfalls, lots of pools and an underwater tunnel. Jason posted some videos on Facebook and YouTube for those interested.

We then spent some time swimming in the ocean where there were some nice big waves rolling into the shore. Jason also finally got to have a coconut drink on the beach this year that he bought from “Coconut Willy,” it was a piƱa colada and even came with a free refill! It was also Jason’s lucky day as he won $3 at the penny slots at the Atlantis casino.

In all it was a good day at Paradise Island, the Atlantis resort is quite impressive even without the water slides or Daniel Craig, although who knows who might have been staying in the Royal Bridge Suite!

On the drive back to our resort we had a great driver who was very friendly and took us by the Fish Fry to show us that area and the best places to go there. Tonight we’re just taking it easy after our long day of walking and looking forward to another lazy beach day tomorrow here at the resort.

That’s all for now! Good night!
